3-D Fish Tank

This project was for January 2019's theme: 3-D art for my 4 years old students. I reviewed with students the difference between 2-D and 3-D art. We had been talking about 3-D art for a couple of weeks so they were pretty fluent with the ideas and terms.

We worked on a 3-D fish tank for 3 classes. For the first two classes, students drew and colored 5-6 fish. I drew guides to drawing fish using basic shapes such as circle and triangle or heart shaped fish. Once students finished their fish they cut them up. I cut thick Styrofoam squares that I painted with gesso so students can paint them blue and stick their fish on.

Students taped their fish to a toothpick and arranged their fish around the Styrofoam. I helped them think about different ways of arranging them instead of one straight line. If students had a lot of time leftover, they cut and colored green paper to look like aquarium plants.
