Henna Hands

We continued with our theme of "Art Around the World". The 6 year old students learned about henna and its cultural importance to many countries in Africa and the Middle East. We looked at a video of someone applying henna and talked about the recurring designs they saw.
Since my 6 year old student's parents may not be too happy with the idea of their kid's coming home with henna on their hands, I had them draw their designs on paper. Students traced and cut their hand from paper. Next, they drew their designs with a pencil, if they were lost they could copy from the designs and patters I drew on the board to guide them. Once students were done drawing with pencil, they went over their drawings with a brown marker to look more like henna.
