Weaved Turtles

For the month of April I chose the theme of endangered animals since Earth Day is in April. The 6 year old students learned about how and why turtles are endangered. I explained to them about how single use plastics are destroying the oceans and how turtles, and other animals, are being affected by this.
For our activity, I was inspired by this post.
Instead of getting green pop sickle sticks I had students color them green with crayons. Once I established the pattern and repeated it, the 6 year old students quickly picked up what they had to. They needed assistance tying and changing colors but they were able to work independently to finish their work. The final touch was drawing the feet and face.
