Circle Patterns

For the beginning of the year, (March 2019) I like to have activities that will help students warm up and get ready for the projects we will be working on for the rest of the year. Once students are in the 5 and 6 years old class, they will be using patterns in a lot of their projects to give them an extra element to work on.
For this project, students learn how to trace a circle using a cup. They traced 5 circles and the circles should overlap. Students will draw a new pattern in each section. I had to clarify that a new pattern is not just changing one shape but doing something completely different. I showed them all the possible patterns you can draw with straight lines as a starting point and it helped to open their minds about different possibilities we can use when we make art.
