Colorful Toucan
A couple of months ago we learned about endangered animals and how many are becoming endangered because we are destroying their homes. To accompany that lesson, we drew a toucan, since their homes are being affected by deforestation. First, we reused paper by coloring on the back with oil pastels. We used as many colors as possible.
I taped a white piece of paper to the colored side of the reused paper. Together, step by step, we drew a toucan. I told students to push down as hard as they could with their pencil so the oil pastel would transfer smoothly to the next paper. When we finished drawing the toucan together, students drew leaves and flowers to decorate their paper.
Some of these turned out great! Especially if they students retraced their lines and pushed their pencils really hard.
