Mondrian Inpsired Paper Collage
This was another project that I worked on with my after school class. We are looking at famous artists through history and making our own version of some of their work.
For this lesson, we looked at the work of Mondrian. First, we saw and discussed this animated video that summarizes Mondrian's work and how it changed through the years.
I liked this video because it shows in a simplified way how he his work looked at the beginning of his career and how it evolved to some of his more famous works. Students were able to see and understand the changes and talk about what he changed and added as Mondrian's style evolved.
Students got black, white, blue and yellow paper to recreate his compositions with blue, red and yellow. First, they made a layout of boxes using black paper they cut into thin lines. After they arranged and glued the black paper, they measured and cut the colored paper to make their own compositions.
