3-D Fish Tank
The theme for the month of January is 3-D art. The first year students worked on a 3-D fish tank using markers, styrofoam, clay and paint.
First, we all learn how to draw fish starting with a circle, triangle, or heart shape. Once students learn the different ways they can decorate their fish and they finish drawing their fish they colored them using markers. Next, we worked on painting our styrforoam blue to show the water our fish would be swimming in. I wanted to add more tactile projects for my youngest students so we made rocks to go on our tank with clay. Once they rocks had dried, students painted them gray. Students cut out their fish, and taped them to toothpicks so they could stick it to the styrofoam. We also made some plants to decorate our fish tank. I showed them different ways they could decorate their paper using markers. Once students were done with their plants, rocks and fish, they put them all together in their fish tank. I had to rearrange some of them because students would usually only stick them together in one line.
Overall, the project is fun and I consider it a success. This was the second year I have done this project, the only thing I need to change(fix) is that I need thicker styrofoam so the toothpicks can go all the way in without wiggling out easily.
