Faces

In my class, I have a bookshelf of art books that my students love reading when they are done with their work. For one of my after school classes I pick a couple of these books to read with my afters school students and make art inspired by them. The book we read for this project was Faces by Zoe Miller and David Goodman. This is a great book to open student's minds to the endless ways to use materials and objects we know to make something different. After we finished reading our book, I presented by students with cups of different materials and asked them to make different faces using these materials in different ways to make many faces. After we finished practicing making faces, students were given the option to chose their own materials to make their own faces.
