Origami Dog
This is another 3-D art project I worked on with my first year students. In the previous years, students learned how to make an origami paper boat but I decided to change the lesson because too many of my students struggled folding the paper and it needed to be something more appropriate for 4 and 5 year old students.
We all worked together as we folded our paper to make the head and the body of the dog. Once students were done folding they colored their dog and put glue in the appropriate parts so the dog would not open or fall. They also got a piece of Styrofoam that they painted green to show us the grass where our dog would be. I also taught students how to fold two papers to make an accordion and we drew and colored flowers and we glued them to our folded paper. Once everything was done, we glued our dog and flowers to our green grass.
Changing the origami project from boat to dog saved me so many headaches and students still enjoyed the process even though it was much more simple than the boat.
