Halloween Lanterns
Halloween lanterns is one of the Halloween projects I did with the 1st year students who are Korean age 5, international age 3 or 4. With the 2nd year students I made a colorful spiderweb and a woven spiderweb.
Since the 1st year students still struggle drawing and coloring, we drew a Halloween pattern together. We talked about images we usually relate to Halloween and chose some of those images to draw our patterns. When we draw, I try to relate the shapes we draw to letters or pictures I know they draw a lot. For example, when we drew the ghost, I showed them to draw a sad mouth to get a good ghost shape. We drew two different patterns, one on the top and one on the bottom. Once we finished, we drew a line pattern, folded our paper in half and started cutting. This part took a little bit longer because I had to make sure they wouldn't cut too much, their lines would be thick and they would cut enough lines. We glued our edges together and we added a handle.
